Top 3 Jobs for Work from Home Mums

All working from home mums can all relate to the fact that it’s really important to find a job that fits in around you and your family. There are lots of career options for work-from-home mums, from freelancing to selling items on eBay.

Here, I'm giving you my top 3 tips for work-from-home mums, along with practical advice.  Read on and I'll show you how you can be successful from the start.

My Top Tip for Work-From-Home Mums  - Plan for the Unexpected!

When you’re working from home, you need to plan for the unexpected. I’m a mum of two kids under the age of 3 and believe me, you have to snatch in the hours to work when you can. Because, when a baby needs you, a baby really needs you and there’s nothing you can do about it.

Sometimes, I can only manage to work one hour in a day but within that hour, I focus on getting as much done as possible. From social media to blog-writing, I make sure I focus on getting that done. I can then rest assured knowing that task is completed for that week.

This brings me onto planning your working week. Scheduling your working week to the minute doesn’t work when you have young children. I can’t tell you how many times I used to bash myself for not completing tasks I scheduled because of things cropping up with my kids. So, I recommend you write down what you aim to get done for the week. Then, work on those tasks when your children are having a nap, night sleep or in childcare.

If things don’t go your way workwise, don’t beat yourself up about it. It happens and its OK. Being kind to yourself when the unexpected happens is essential if you’re going to manage working from home with kids.

Delegate Tasks

I’ve gotten to a point where I’ve had to delegate tasks to others e.g. social media, because my business needs focus on other areas. If you can delegate tasks to others, I really recommend you do it because it will help you think about growing your business etc.

If you’re struggling with cash, you can consider hiring an intern or student to help work for you or ask for help from other mums. Lots of mums love getting involved with new projects to keep them busy and learn new skills.

Support from Family

I have to admit that I’d feel really alone with my business if I didn’t have the support from my husband. He’s been there to give me advice, to proofread articles, and be a sounding board for me when I’ve needed it. Having support with your business is so important because if things don’t go your way for whatever reason, you have someone to lean on.

Another good way of getting support is by hiring a mentor. I have a great mentor called Whitney Lehmann who has truly transformed and inspired me to have the confidence to create my business. Without her, I’d still be a stay-at-home-mum (and there’s nothing wrong with that) pining to create a business, but unsure how.

So, these are my top 3 tips for work-from-home mums for making a success of running a business and family. If you really want it, you can and will make it work.

Hi, I'm Louisa

Thanks for reading my article

The biggest thing I’ve learnt from having a career and being a mum is the ability to be strong enough to say, “this is the life I want” and not feel guilty for saying it. I know, it’s easier said than done right? But, I’ve been able to do this by organising my career in a way that doesn’t inflict on family life.
